Join Us for a Historic Reading of the Declaration of Independence
Sunday, July 19 • 11:00 a.m.
Why July 19?
While we celebrate Independence Day on July 4, the Declaration of Independence did not reach Albany until later. After New York's Provincial Congress approved independence on July 9, Albany County's delegates sent a copy of the Declaration home. It arrived in Albany on July 17, and on July 19, 1776, it was read publicly to the people of Albany and the surrounding communities.
Exactly 250 years later, we invite you to experience that historic moment once again.
Join our local leaders as they read the Declaration of Independence aloud, commemorating the first public reading in Albany. Come celebrate our shared history, reflect on the ideals of liberty and self-government, and enjoy refreshments afterward.
Date: Sunday, July 19
Time: 11:00 am
Location: Town Hall Front Lawn
Refreshments will be served.
All are welcome! Bring your family, friends, and neighbors as we commemorate this remarkable chapter in our nation's history.
