DPW Field Operations – Equipment Operator I/Water and Sewer Maintenance Person
The Town of Bethlehem, NY-Department of Public Works is seeking candidates to work as an Equipment Operator I, or a Water and Sewer Maintenance Person, in our Field Operations Division. The title for this position will be determined by experience of the candidate. Primary duties include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
Starting Salary for this position is $52,015.
Equipment Operator I: Candidates must possess a valid NYS Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with air brakes AND shall have a minimum of one (1) year of experience operating a vehicle which requires a Class A or B license.
Starting Salary for this position is $54,579.

- Assists in repairing broken water/sewer mains, replaces defective pumps, meters and controls.
- Assists in the installation of water service taps, hydrants and repairs, paints and maintains hydrants;
- Checks complaints on sewer backups, pump station failures, broken pipes, high or low pressure, water meter readings, etc.;
- Assists in the cutting, threading and fitting of pipes in extending utility service pumps;
- Operates a vehicle and motor equipment and uses power and hand tools;
- Responds at all times to emergency repair calls.
- Provides traffic control and employee safety at work site;
- Keeps and maintains the facilities inside and out in a proper manner.
Starting Salary for this position is $52,015.
