SBA Upstate New York Announces $660.4 million in Federal Contracts Awarded to Local Small Businesses

Veteran-Owned Small Businesses in Upstate New York Were Awarded $83.9 million in Federal Contracts
 
 
SYRACUSE – Recently, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Upstate New York District announced that over 10,000 federal contracts were awarded to small business in 34 counties across Upstate New York with a total value of $660.4 million in FY2021.
 
Of the total number, 2,155 federal contracts were awarded to veteran-owned small businesses in Upstate New York with a total value of $83.9 million, SBA announced during National Veteran Small Business Week.
 
“Not only do veterans possess the skills necessary for entrepreneurship, but they also give back to their community and work to create jobs for returning servicemembers,” said SBA Upstate New York District Director Bernard J. Paprocki. “This week, we celebrate the vital contributions veterans have made to our local economy and highlight SBA’s resources to help veterans start, grow, and expand their businesses. Federal contracting is an opportunity that veterans and any small business owner looking to grow should consider.”
 
In FY2021, federal contracts were awarded to small businesses in the Upstate New York District who participate in SBA’s contracting assistance programs:

SBA offers several assistance programs that help small businesses access federal contracts, with benefits like qualifying for set-aside contracts and partnering with established contractors. For example, the Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business Program qualifies small businesses to compete for federal contracts open only to those participating in the program.
 
For assistance with SBA’s federal contracting programs, to determine whether a business is ready for federal contracting or to find other resources for veterans, entrepreneurs in Upstate New York can get free business counseling from SBA Resource Partners, including the Veteran Business Outreach Center, Small Business Development Centers, SCORE Mentors, and WISE Women’s Business Center.
 
Businesses that have received support from SBA, including traditional and pandemic relief or contracting assistance, are eligible to be nominated for the 2023 National Small Business Week Awards, including awards for Veteran, Minority, and Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year.
