Port of Coeymans To Receive a Portion of $287 Million NYS Investment for Port Upgrades
Port of Coymans is a privately owned marine terminal operated by Bethlehem Chamber member Carver Companies. They will be benefitting from the $287 million New York state is set to invest to upgrade ports to accommodate offshore wind manufacturing and transportation – both the Albany and Coeymans ports will receive a portion. Upgrades are scheduled to start mid-2020.
New York state is also planning to invest $20 million to develop a workforce training program for offshore wind. 13 colleges throughout New York will receive funding, and Hudson Valley Community College will be one of them.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently signed the state's new climate plan to create a carbon-free electricity system by 2040 and to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
In addition, Cuomo announced the state will be investing two offshore wind projects. Both will be located along the Atlantic coast; one is by Orsted and Eversource, and the other is by Equinor U.S. Holdings.
Cuomo said that these investments are aligned with the state's new climate plan. Combined these projects will generate $3.2 billion in economic activity. 1,600 construction and permanent jobs will be created, and they will represent the largest offshore wind supply of any state.
