Event Description:
The Delmar Community Orchestra, under the direction of Vincent Bonafede, will present a Spring Concert on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 7:30 pm at the Bethlehem Town Hall (445 Delaware Ave., Delmar). The concert, which will include classical selections and pops, is free and open to the public. The Orchestra is very pleased to welcome clarinet soloist Maxim Couillard to the program, who will perform Weber’s Concertino in E-flat Major, Op.26. Couillard is a senior at Bethlehem Central High School, where he plays in the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. He is also a first clarinet in the Empire State Youth Orchestra (EYSO) under the direction of Helen Cha-Pyo, and has been a part of the ESYO organization since 2016. This talented young musician participated in the 2016 Suburban Council Band and the 2015 and 2018 Suburban Council Orchestras, where he was principal clarinetist, and participated twice in Area Allstate, this year as principal clarinetist. In 2017, he was an alternate for New York State Conference Allstate. He recently was the principal clarinetist in the New York State Band Directors Association’s honor band, and also performed in the Capital Region Wind Ensemble Side-by Side concert. Couillard studies with the Guilderland Music Academy and frequently arranges music for chamber groups that he creates, playing in nursing homes, school events, and anywhere he can share his music. He debuted a Jazz arrangement of Carmen at Bethlehem High School’s Cabaret event which raised money for refugees. Couillard regularly posts music videos and short-films on his YouTube channel, MoviesbyMaxim. Couillard would like to thank his previous teacher, Eric Hughes, and his current teacher, Katherine Hudson-Sabens, for pushing him to be a successful musician.
